History of Albini Group

Albini Group

1876

The company was founded by Zaffiro Borgomanero at Desenzano sul Serio, in the borough of Albino, with the name of “Z. Borgomanero & C.”. After just one year in business, there are already 40 mechanical looms for weaving and 44 workers using them.

1884

The company is awarded the bronze medal at the Industrial Exhibition of Turin. This is the first important recognition for the quality of the shirting fabrics.

1891

As he has no children, Borgomanero leaves the company to his nephew Giovanni Albini. At the census survey that year there were 107 looms and 90 workers.
Albini becomes one of the most significant players in local economy, as president of the Bergamo Chamber of Commerce.

1907

Giovanni Albini also takes part in the foundation of the Industrial Union of Bergamo, consisting mainly of companies in the textile sector.

storia_2

1919

His children inherit Industrie Riunite Filati (Riccardo) and the weaving mill of Desenzano (Silvio) that takes the name of “Società Dr Silvio Albini & C.”

1930

Thanks to the new forms of organisation and with the introduction of semi automatic looms, the company meets its first structural crisis of the sector head on and comes through it stronger than ever.

1946

In the post-war period there was an increase in production and in the need for labour for Cotonificio Albini. Valle Seriana is not, in fact, affected by the concentration of production activities going on around the big towns.

1968

Management responsibilities pass on to the fourth generation, represented by Giancarlo Albini with the help of his two brothers Gianni and Piero.

1984

Silvio Albini becomes operative and immediately concentrates on developing foreign business, which then accounted for about 10 to 15%, catching sight of the potential of what appeared to be a rather undeveloped niche.

1985-1990

Cotonificio Albini explores the European and world markets, creating a widespread network of agents and customers. The company also has the precious help of Fabio (Silvio's cousin), Andrea and Stefano Albini who held the following posts: stylist in charge of the product, industrial manager and administrative manager with consideration for the Albiate brand.

1992

Two historical English brands are acquired: Thomas Mason and David & John Anderson. With this acquisition the company can count on a commercial structure with an international air bout it and on historical archives that contain more than 600 volumes of fabric samples, a real benchmark for the creatives.

1996

It continues with the vertical integration, acquiring the finishing plants of Brebbia (Va). This is the first factory outside the historical Albino headquarters.

2000-2006

Manifattura di Albiate becomes part of the Group. Two factories are set up in the Czech Republic and, in 2003, a third is opened at Mottola, in the province of Taranto, with 130 Albino trained workers.

2008-2009

The Albini Group sets up a new Logistics Centre at Gandino (Bg) in support of all the other factories. The Méditerranean Textile in Egypt starts working, the place of origin of the very best cottons in the world.

Today

The company is under the guidance of the fifth generation of the founder family. With four brands and a collection of more than 20,000 fabric variations, able to satisfy all styles, from sporty to the more classic, the Albini Group plays the role of absolute star in international markets..
